Thousands of fans were at the Charlottetown, P.E.I. waterfront Monday morning for a live taping of Live! With Regis and Kelly.
The New York City TV hosts were greeted with windy but sunny weather as they walked onto their stage - a gazebo specially built for the show – behind eight Mounties.
The crowd cheered at almost anything the hosts said that had to do with the Atlantic province.
"This is nice," host Kelly Ripa said. "This just feels right, doesn't it?"
She added she and her family were enjoying "the best food of our entire lives" and the province "feels like home."
As Regin Philbin talked about a show he did in Moncton, holding up newspapers with reviews, there were more cheers. He told the receptive crowd he admires the RCMP and that the the green hills of Prince Edward Island remind him of Ireland.
The show will film four episodes on Monday and Tuesday - two live shows and two pre-taped for later in the week - and crews were in Charlottetown on the weekend filming segments for the show.
The show, which airs on CTV, announced back in May it was coming to P.E.I.
“Charlottetown will provide an extraordinary backdrop for the shows, and we’re really looking forward to showing our viewers the island’s special qualities,” said Michael Gelman, executive producer, in a statement.
Premier Robert Ghiz said it was a chance to feature the province.
"This partnership is a strategic initiative to build the brand of Prince Edward Island which encompasses tourism, food and culture. It is an unprecedented opportunity to build awareness of the Island as a travel and culinary destination," Ghiz said.
